The answer so far

“Weight-loss peptide” is a broad description, not a single type of medicine. Some authorised products affect appetite signals. Tesamorelin has a specific US use for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. AOD-9604 has been investigated for weight loss. “Fat burning” is a separate idea from a lasting loss of body fat or weight. The product, population and outcome determine what a study can tell us.12

Start with the outcome, not the name

Are you asking about feeling less hungry, a lower number on the scale, losing stored body fat, or changing where fat is distributed? These are related, but they are not the same measurement. The body normally uses fat as fuel, but a short-term change in that process does not by itself demonstrate lasting fat loss. Start with fat burning, fat loss and weight explained.

Dig into the AOD-9604 oral study, the tesamorelin visceral-fat trial or the tirzepatide body-composition substudy.

For the bigger picture, follow the growth-hormone signal and its connection to muscle, fat and sleep. A local fat-dissolving injection is another, different claim; compare local effects with appetite medicines and peptides.12

Appetite signals: semaglutide and tirzepatide

Some approved medicines act on hormone signalling involved in appetite and fullness. Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptor; tirzepatide acts on GLP-1 and GIP receptors. These are different products with different trials, indications and limitations. For example, in the US Zepbound is a tirzepatide product approved for chronic weight management in defined groups. That does not make every product containing tirzepatide interchangeable or approved for every use. See semaglutide and tirzepatide.

In the US, compounded medicines are not FDA-approved, although they can meet a patient’s particular medical need. The FDA has reported dosing errors with compounded injectable semaglutide, sometimes requiring hospital care. The US Zepbound label does not recommend taking it with another tirzepatide product or a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Discuss the exact product and any switch or combination with the prescribing clinician.34567

Tesamorelin: fat distribution, not general weight management

Tesamorelin acts on a signal connected to growth hormone. In the US, Egrifta WR is indicated to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition involving changes in fat distribution. Its label says it is not indicated for weight-loss management. A trial measured fat around internal organs with scans; that specific result should not be described as proof of general weight-loss treatment. Read the tesamorelin profile.89

AOD-9604: a proposed fat-loss fragment

AOD-9604 is related to a fragment of growth hormone and is marketed for fat loss. In a company-sponsored oral study described by FDA, 502 participants were included in the randomised comparison and no statistically significant weight-loss difference from placebo was found. FDA summarised sponsor-reported results; the full trial report was not reviewed here. This does not determine the effect of a different formulation or route. Read the AOD-9604 evidence.1011

What about retatrutide and growth-hormone stacks?

Retatrutide is an investigational medicine studied for metabolic conditions; its trial results and regulatory status need their own assessment. CJC-1295 and ipamorelin are discussed for body composition through growth-hormone signalling, but a hormone change does not establish fat loss or improved strength. Explore retatrutide and the CJC-1295 and ipamorelin comparison.

How can I compare a claim?

Ask what was measured, in whom, over how long, against what comparison, and whether the same finished product and route were studied. A lower weight, a body-fat scan and better health are different outcomes. Medicines can also have side effects and eligibility criteria; a clinician can discuss individual circumstances. The weight and appetite hub brings together related explanations.

If weight loss has slowed, see what a plateau can mean and what the studies measured.13
